Laptop Battery Technology

It goes without saying that the performance of a laptop depends a lot on its battery. After all, a laptop becomes mobile only when its battery allows for a longer runtime. With all the wide variety of choices in the market, it's always good to be knowledgeable about the many types of batteries that are available so you can make the right choice. The types of laptop batteries vary greatly according to the technology used to create them, the efficiency of their performance, and the hazards that come with their use. There are three popular kinds of laptop batteries that have been used over the years.

Nickel cadmium

The nickel cadmium batteries were used in old laptops. They are actually the first rechargeable batteries ever used in notebooks because for a relatively low cost, one can yield satisfactory output. However, as time went by, the NiCad battery lost its popularity over more environment-friendly types. One of the downsides of using this type is what is known as the memory effect. This refers to the decrease in a battery's life when you charge it without letting it completely drain first. A NiCad battery can also be severely damaged when it is left plugged onto the charger long after it is fully charged.

NiCad batteries have relatively low capacities compared to the most modern ones. It's not anymore used for newer notebooks because these laptop batteries are heavier and pose more negative consequences than benefits.

Nickel metal hybrid

The nickel metal hybrid (NiMH) batteries are just a couple of steps higher than the NiCad ones. They have twice the energy output of the older type but are still susceptible to memory effect. NiMH batteries are still available these days. They are usually found in older laptops and manufacturers haven't removed them from the market yet as many people are still attached to their bulky but reliable notebooks.

Lithium ion

Lithium ion (LiON) batteries are the most popular battery types that are currently used in newer laptops. These batteries do not have the dreaded memory effect that their predecessors suffered from. They are also relatively lighter than the other two and have a better power output. The LiON batteries answer the demand for efficient power sources at a minimal production cost. Considering that notebook users live in a fast-paced environment, this is a great development that nobody can't do without. By far, the Lithium ion batteries are the recommended choice for today's laptops.

However, it's important to note that a laptop battery can only perform efficiently with proper use. It's therefore important that you have to be mindful of proper maintenance and power-saving techniques to maximize your battery's life.

Laptop Computer's Financing To Update Your Equipment

You should take a look at these promotions and analyze whether you can take advantage of them or not. Here are some tips on how to decide whether a particular promotion suits your needs or not.

Banks and financial institutions want to invest their money and thus they offer loans and lines of credit. Computer manufacturers want to sell their products and thus, associating with lenders widens their sales by making laptop computers more affordable. You, as a consumer can take advantage of this situation and shop around both for lenders and laptops and get the best offer possible. There are many bargains out there.

Credit Card Promotions On Laptop Computers

By associating with certain credit card issuers, manufacturers or retail companies offer their laptop computers payable in several installments with 0% APR. These offers are excellent as you can purchase your laptop on several payments without having to put all the money down. Some of them even offer a 10% discount on the retail price in order to attract more customers. It can actually end up being even cheaper than purchasing in cash.

What do they get in return? Well, the manufacturer or Retail Company gets to sell the products and the credit card issuer gets to retain you as a client for at least a year if you select 12 payments or two years if you select 24 and so on. These practices create fidelity at a very low cost for the credit card companies and though you may not pay interests for this particular purchase you will pay interests for all the others you make.

Small Loans For Laptop Purchases

These loans are offered by retail companies sometimes in association with financial institutions sometimes by creating a financial institution ad hoc. These loans feature advantageous terms and small installments to attract consumers. The idea is to make goods affordable when they would otherwise be rather expensive. With these small loans laptops are presented as affordable items because the purchase price is concealed behind the small installments.

These loans have simple qualification processes. Usually the only requirements for approval are some sort of identification along with a copy of a paycheck receipt or some other proof of income. Some retail companies will require only a copy of a credit card resume sent to your home to show proof both of income and residence. Thus, getting approved for these loans is fairly simple and has little to no hassles at all.

As you can see, laptops can really be affordable if purchased through these means. Thus, if you were planning or considering the purchase of laptop computer you may want to shop around for these offers and choose whether to buy your laptop with your credit card or by requesting a small loan specifically created for this purpose. In any case, you can get a great deal and repay the money in affordable installments.

Making Life Easier With Bluetooth Technology

In the last few years, there has been much being mentioned and overheard about a wireless networking solution known as Bluetooth technology. And, even though it seems to have become a pretty common term, many people are still in the dark about what Bluetooth mobile wireless technology is and what it does.

It is a wireless technology networking communication method for short ranges. In the last few years it has been used to replace many different cables that connect either portable electronic devices, such as cell phones, or fixed electronics, such as desktop computers, to other devices. Many people are grateful to be freed from the tangle of wires that previously were needed for their electronic gadgets to communicate with each other.

Three of the greatest benefits of Bluetooth technology enabled devices are: low power usage, robustness and low cost. A Bluetooth mobile wireless technology system will be made up of an RF receiver, a base-band and a protocol stack. This simple setup provides the communication connection of different enabled devices and the exchange of various classes of data among such devices.

The RF (Radio Frequency) is a physical layer that operates on the ISM band, which is unlicensed, at 2.4GHz. There is also a frequency hop transceiver that is employed which helps to limit both interference and fade.

Unlike most of the other wireless standards today, the Bluetooth mobile wireless technology allows product developers both a link layer and an application layer, each with sets of definitions. This enables support for both voice and data applications.

It is the set of specifications that is unique to it, that allows for a definition of uniform structures. This in turn is what makes it possible for such a wide range of wireless devices to connect with each other and to share data and communicate. This level of interactivity between such an array of different types of devices was not feasible, at least not on a level that could be widely used, before the Bluetooth wireless protocol was introduced.

In just a few years, it know-how has gained global acceptance to such a degree that any of its enabled device, operating virtually anywhere in the world, is able to communicate with another Bluetooth device within the correct proximity. All its enabled electronics connect and communicate wirelessly via short-range networks which are called piconets.

Each device in a piconet that is operating with this latest technology specifications, can simultaneously connect and share data with up to seven other devices within an individual piconet. Each Bluetooth wireless device can also be connected to multiple piconets at the same times. Because piconets are dynamic and are established automatically as its enabled devices move into and out of the proximity boundaries, this is a very flexible and powerful feature of the Bluetooth system.

One of the greatest strengths of the Bluetooth knowledge, is that such an enabled device is capable of handling both voice and data transmissions at the same time without interfering with either communication. This feature means that users can enjoy a variety of convenient solutions concurrently such as: using a hands-free headset for voice calls; sending documents to a printer or fax; synchronizing a laptop or PDA; and using various mobile phone applications.

In addition to being able to get away from a myriad of wires to tangle you up, Bluetooth technology has also been designed to be surprisingly easy to setup and implement. Virtually all Bluetooth wireless devices connect with each other automatically and when it's time to share data, that is also a very straightforward task.

The Buyers Guide to Laptops and Computers

If you're contemplating buying a laptop there are undoubtedly some great deals to be found, but what should you be looking for when you're in the market for a new computer.

Well, it's always worth sitting down with a pen and paper and thinking about exactly what you need your new computer to do. If you're simply going to use it for word processing and the odd email here and there you don't need the super fast processor and hard drive that can hold millions of files, so don't let a slick salesman tell you otherwise.

If it's a family computer you're in the market for you'll want a good all rounder. Children have a great knack of loading games and other large applications onto a PC without you knowing which can really effect performance for when you need it for more important things (or your own games). So make sure you get a decent sized hard drive and a good amount of ram.

Regardless of the type of computer you're in the market for make sure you explain to the salesperson exactly what you need it for. More often than not they'll be able to point you in the right direction, but make sure you only spend an amount you're comfortable with.

If you're an online shopper then there are some great deals to be found, so just make sure you conduct proper research before diving in to make that purchase. You'll probably see a lot of adverts for the newest laptops on the market like the MacBook Air [http://www.buymacbookair.net], which are certainly worth looking at if you like your gadgets and gizmos.

Buying a laptop is just like anything else so make sure you do a decent amount of research, be clear about the amount you want to spend and weigh up your options.

Free Your Hands With Bluetooth Wireless Headsets

Sometimes you just need to talk on the phone at the same time that you need to accomplish another important task or two. And, in this day and age, when the ability to multi-task is ever more important, Bluetooth wireless headsets are a huge help.

Bluetooth headsets are hands-free, wire-free devices that you simply attach onto your ear. This gives you the freedom to take care of other important tasks, such as using the computer, doing the dishes, driving the car, or anything else that is better done with both hands, yet still allows you to carry on a phone conversation.

Bluetooth wireless headsets can be used with Bluetooth enabled phones which allows you to talk on your cell phone, both hands-free and without wires that might get tangled up in your task. But there are other uses for a Bluetooth wireless headset as well. You could use it to connect to a computer that is Bluetooth enabled which would allow you to listen to music and use your VoIP phone.

The popularity of its headsets has continually increased since they were first introduced. They have proven to make people's lives easier and more productive, not to mention safer, when it comes to being able to drive with both hands on the wheel and still have a clear conversation via your cell phone.

Bluetooth headsets are also being designed to be more stylish and in some circles, could even be considered a fashion, or at least a technology statement. If you are ever in a store or an airport or waiting in line at the movies and see someone who appears to be talking to themselves, it's a good bet that if you could catch a glimpse of the other ear, you would see their Bluetooth wireless headset.

Another advantage of wireless headsets over their wired predecessors, is that this mobile wireless technology also delivers crystal clear quality of sound. In addition, you can use your enabled headset to use all of the voice activated commands that are available in your wireless phone. This makes it easy to send, receive and even make phone calls from your cell phone even if it is stowed away in a purse, pocket or briefcase, as long as your phone has functions that can be voice activated.

When you are considering which of the available headsets is best for you, there are a number of different features that you should check out. Since there are so many choices, a Bluetooth wireless headset should have just the right compliment of functions that you require.

One of the first things you will want to check on in a wireless headset, is the range of the device. The range will vary somewhat depending of the version and the power class. In most cases, a Bluetooth wireless headset will be able to connect to other devices of this technology within a range of about 30 feet.

Active noise reduction (ANR) is an important feature to look for in a wireless headset. ANR headsets use a specific technology that is able to reduce the ambient noise from your surroundings. This is especially helpful in improving your conversations while you are on the road or anytime you have a lot of background noise.

One popular feature that is available on some Bluetooth wireless headsets is an LCD display. This tiny display on your headset allows you to see who is calling with the Caller ID feature. It also allows you to access the features of your Bluetooth wireless headset.

Refurbishing Gigawaste - An Overview of Refurbished Laptops

Segregation is not the only politically correct waste management advocacy today. To start with, did you know that electronics produce larger volumes of wastes compared to any other consumer goods nowadays? This is obviously due to the rapid development of technology, which has resulted into the similarly rapid obsolescence of electronic media, gadgets and equipments like cellular phones, personal stereos, audio components, tape/compact disc media, and more notoriously, computer hardware.

By the year 2001 In the United States alone, the Environmental Protection Agency estimated that about 220 million tons of old computers and other tech hardware and tape media are trashed each year. These trashed consumer electronics is now popularly known as e-waste, another one of the many catch phrases of information society is also one of its most over-looked flipside. Most e-wastes can be found in landfills all around the globe.

Unfortunately, when disposed of in a landfill, e-waste becomes a conglomeration of plastic and steel casings, circuit boards, glass tubes, wires, resistors, capacitors, and other assorted parts and materials. Which quite commonly enough is an assortment of heavy metals; trace substances and other hazardous substances that contaminate soil and groundwater.

Nevertheless, fortunately enough, there are those who do not mistakenly assume that their old media is worthless. Instead they recognize the fact technology is still inaccessible to many, most are too expensive for the average consumer and some, even prohibitively so. Thus, a great many of these e-wastes find their way to many public schools, community-based organizations and other service oriented-institutions and groups that still get the most out of these old media.

And perhaps the most important surplus in this sea of e-waste is our computer central processing unit or CPU. Commonly donated to technologically needy sectors, some CPU's are even purchased at reasonable process, restored or reconditioned and sold to surplus shops which is currently an emergent industry precisely due to high media turn-over. So, if you deem your media pre-historic and worthless, don't toss it in the nearest landfill or local antique shop Yes, even recycling has taken such economically epic technological dimensions.

Refurb PC's - Wise Or Otherwise?

Recycled, reconditioned or remanufactured. Either way, refurbished PC's might sound like a practical option for consumers who wish to enjoy economy and convenience. Refurbished PC's do offer the best of both worlds. It is more accessible. The fact is, refurbished PC's are easy to find. Major PC manufacturers, catalog merchants, and auction sites sell them online. These computers are sometimes from orders that have been cancelled. Other items have never been taken out of the box and are really so brand new.

They are affordable compared to brand new shelf models. Most of these items are sold for 10 or 30 percent less than the original price. Most of all, refurbished PC units are often brand new models returned to manufacturers who in turn have the units typically cleaned, fixed, tested for problems; reloaded with their included operating system and updated if necessary and thus they function almost virtual in the same capacity as new ones. The reality, according to sellers of refurbished systems is that the extra maintenance and testing refurbished machines undergo make them at least as reliable as their factory-fresh counterparts.

There's always a downside to it though. If you're a small-business or home user on a tight budget and you aren't meticulous about particular features and performance specifications, purchasing a reconditioned PC makes perfect sense. Especially when you wish to purchase PCs specifically or primarily for word processing tasks only. But if you are particular about power and speed, refurbished PC's won't work for you. You can't customize your refurbished PC's.

And even if claims of refurbished PC stable performance were true, speed and memory gaps is still a problem. For a few hundred dollars more, you can buy a brand-new PC with a top-of-the-line processor. And that's a compelling argument in favor of buying the a factory-refresh models. But then again, budget-conscious buyers might well consider saving a few bucks by sacrificing some speed. They don't need and certainly wouldn't mind chip set speeds below 2 GHz in the fist place.

Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is Now the Future

It is clear that one of the most important trends in computing, for both desktop PCs and notebook computers, is wireless connectivity. Anytime one surveys the massive tangle of wire, cables and cords that are common with any computer setup, it is evident that less would be more. This trend to eliminate as many computer cords as possible is one reason why the Bluetooth wireless keyboard will eventually replace their corded counterparts.

Because of the advances in battery life and in wireless technology networking, the day is coming that everything that needs to communicate with your computer, from the keyboard to the mouse and every other needed peripheral, will do so wirelessly. Apple once again seems to be leading the way, as they have been the first to make the enabled keyboard, of this technology, part of the standard suite of equipment that comes with their new iMac. Their keyboard is also a perfect compliment to their Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse, which has some additional fresh features for the humble mouse.

Other manufacturers are also offering enabled keyboard models of this technology, which can be used with any enabled computer of this technology, be it a desktop model or a laptop. In fact, these keyboards can also be used with a handheld computer or with a Bluetooth wireless technology PDA. While you probably don't want to lug around your keyboard with your PDA, it can be a nice option if you want to quickly add contacts or notes from the home or office where you are using your keyboard.

If you are ready to make the switch to a Bluetooth wireless keyboard and a mouse, then one of the more popular options is the Rocketfish Wireless Multimedia Bluetooth Keyboard and Laser Mouse. This combination package of keyboard and mouse employs mobile wireless technology networking that has been getting very positive reviews from users. One note though, it will only operate with Windows computers and not with any Apple Macintosh personal computers.

Both the Rocketfish enabled keyboard of this technology and the wireless mouse utilize a USB adapter key, which is included in the package. This USB adapter key uses the WIDCOMM version 5.1, which gives the devices a range of up to 60 feet. However, this range might be considered overkill since not much will be readable on your computer screen at a distance of 60 feet, not matter how big the words or how sharp your eyes.

Not only does the USB key drive both the Rocketfish mouse and keyboard, but it also functions as a hub. This hub function allows you to transfer digital files to and from your computer or any other enabled device.

Reviewers have commented that the Rocketfish enabled keyboard of this technology is very thin and is also very stylishly designed and comes with a comfortable wrist pad built right into the unit. The keyboard has 104 keys for all the normal functions, and it also boasts 10 bonus keys.

These are "one-touch" keys that are intended to be used for multimedia access and control. For instance, one of the keys will open up an internet browser, one will get email, and still another will access the help screens. There are also dedicated keys for playing DVDs, with such functions as play, rewind, pause and fast forward, as well as keys for volume and mute.

The Bluetooth wireless keyboard and the mouse are just the first step in eliminating the wires and cords that can be so annoying and cumbersome. In addition to the convenience of working without wires, thanks to today's mobile wireless technology, there are also some real benefits in ergonomics. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, you will no longer be limited to where you can position your keyboard, but can place it where it is most comfortable and where you are in an ergonomically correct position.

Chat Tools - How Much Has It Evolved

"I see it, I need it, I see it ..... I need it!"

This is part of the post chorus from Static-X's single "Push It" which sometimes electrifies me. Somehow or rather I could relate this at the time I very thirsty and a cool can of Pepsi could quench my thirst

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm not changing my perspective of my laptop blog to a music one or even promoting Pepsi, for this instance, but it makes me wonder that the importance of computer technology is to us and how we can't seem to live without.

As Wayne Static (lead vocals of Static-X) puts it in the above phrase; it's a relation to technology because I certainly needed it to write this article.

I might think it as a daily supplement, similar to the vitamins and minerals, due to the fact computer technology has changed so much and becoming an essential part of our daily lives.

Just take for an example, chatting or some might call it "instant messaging" or IM.

During the early days where the internet is still very new, users will have to go to a certain chat room via the internet; getting themselves registered and start chatting.

There's no GUI whatsoever just plain text and people are already getting themselves excited!

These days chat rooms are more sophisticated yet user friendly and GUI galore as well. Moreover softwares are now even ready made free for users to download like MSN, Yahoo Messenger, QQ, Skype, AIM, etc.

Not only these messenger programs allows you to only chat but they can even allow you to view your e-mail, play games, share files (which includes photos and videos) with each other and even make landline or mobile calls.

Smilies can now be inserted with ease and it is very much a user's requirement nowadays.

With the world chatting easily, communication is not only depends much on the normal telephone.

Even when you're mobile, your laptop / notebook computer is your best friend as it allows communication done with ease wherever you are (provided there's internet access).

USB For Laptops - Good Or Not?

Do you own a used laptop or want to buy one? Usually people who interested in used laptops are people who seek effectiveness from their laptops. Yep, they want a cheap laptop because they simply need it, nothing more. However, you should enhance your used laptop. Try to put one or two accessories to your laptop like a mouse and USB.

USB was designed for personal computers but nowadays it is a common thing for laptop either. USB is something that everyone needs, from high school students to high-profile office managers, everyone needs it. A USB is a "bridge" for many electronic gadgets, including PDA and video game console. So if you have an important data from your PC and you want to transfer it to another gadget, you need a USB.

A normal and new personal computer normally has six USB ports. For laptops, I see that USB trend is growing too. There are almost no new laptops without any USB ports. Some good mobile laptops even have more than one USB port. Thus, you need a USB to make everything more effective for your used laptop. You buy a used laptop because you need it, right? Usually a hard worker needs a USB to help his jobs easier.

Thus, a USB is important for everyone, especially for PCs and laptops. You can't just rely on the data inside your laptop. How if one day your laptop needs to be repaired? How if one day your laptop can't operate normally anymore? Then you need a USB to back up your data so you won't get panic even if something terrible happens to your laptop.

Do You Know The Major Differences Between Laptops And PDAs?

A PDA and a laptop computer share many of the same features, yet they are quite different. A PDA is outstanding for its light weight and portability. The laptop is portable, but is heavier and somewhat more cumbersome. If you are looking to buy a PDA or a laptop, it makes sense to compare the two to determine just what you need.

A PDA is lightweight - more so than the laptop. While you can take the laptop to a class with you, it is harder to carry. You can put the PDA in a pocket or purse. You have to carry the laptop in a carrier, usually with a shoulder strap.

This makes it more difficult to walk in, gracefully take your place, and begin taking notes. With the laptop, you will have to set it up and go through the process of starting it into the right program. There is less on a PDA to sort through, so the start-up process is much easier. You just turn it on, select the program you want to use and you are ready to go in seconds.

The PDA has much less memory. You might think that buying the laptop is a no-brainer. After all, you want the most memory, right? Actually, there are some advantages to having less memory.

You can download everything from your PDA onto a laptop or other PC very quickly if you need to use the information there. Then, you can start over inputting new data into your PDA. Thus, your PDA is a constant source of new material that can go directly into whatever computer you are using.

Another advantage of the small PDA memory is that you have less to sort through when you want to open a program or look up a file. The laptop holds so many files that it takes awhile to find the one you want and bring it up. So, it is a matter of speed versus volume.

PDAs are the winners when it comes to portable music. No one wants to take out, open up, and ready a laptop just to play a song. Yet, a PDA is so lightweight and easy to carry and operate; people love to pull them out for a little music.

However, if you want to view images on a screen, the laptop is far superior. The screen is larger, so you can see more detail and brighter colors. Your pictures will be seen at their best on a laptop. Besides this, pictures take up a lot of memory. It doesn't take too many photos to use up the memory in a PDA as compared to a laptop.

The differences between laptops and PDAs are dwindling. Laptops are becoming smaller and their cost is coming down every year. At the same time, PDAs are becoming more powerful, with the ability to do everything from playing computer games to aiding in the medical and educational fields. It is best to get an idea of which you want the most, and then look for a PDA or laptop that meets your needs.

Do I Really Need the Best Laptop?

Depending what your need is for the laptop will determine if you really need the best of the best or one that will cover your requirements. If your just a casual surfer of the net, college student or you need a good laptop for your business, each type of person will desire something different.

The person who goes on the internet just to check their e-mails or to chat with their friends will only require a basic computer with minimal amount of RAM as well as programs. They wouldn't need to get all the up grades or even fill their laptop with major amount of gigs.

A college student, depending on what type of classes he or she are taking, must decide if they would want to get graphic programs or not. A big issue with students is that they want the laptop to be conveniently mobile. Some laptops are bulky and have some weight. The best college laptop is the one that works for that particular person.

As for the business man or women, their needs will also vary. First of all they need one that will not fail them. They will require a dependable laptop that can be mobile as well. Since a businessperson travels quite a bit he will need to make sure that he or she gets a long life battery and a back up one as well. The programs that they'll need will also depend on what field of work they are in. In advertising one would need a laptop that has a few different graphic programs, while someone in banking would need spreadsheets and financial programs.

Whatever the need there's a laptop out there for you. Making a list of exactly what you'll be doing with it and using it for will help you in your decision.

How to Avoid Accidental Breakage of Your Notebook

Notebook also called as laptop is an extension of desktop computers. It is smart and slick in look, light in weight, consume less power, make nearly no noise and most importantly can be easily carried to anywhere. In fact due to its portable feature as well as with the advent of Wi-Fi features, usage of notebook has been increased rapidly in the last few years.

You do not need to get entangled with wires while accessing internet. Just carry your notebook and enjoy working from anywhere you feel like. Sounds awesome right? Earlier notebook was considered to be a luxurious item which was accessible only among the riches, but not anymore. With the sharp fall in its price, notebook is with in the affordable reach of everyone now.

Even big notebook manufacturers like HP, Dell are quite confident that soon the sell of notebooks will outdo the sell of desktops. These days many notebook manufacturers designed lightweight notebooks also called ultraportables especially for students and business travellers. These notebooks usually weigh less than 3 pounds.

One of the common problems users always complain about notebook is its small screen. Several accessories like DVD burner or 17-inch LCD screen are available by which you can make your laptop screen look every bit as good as your desktop screen. Similarly some users might not be satisfied with the tiny speakers of notebook. You can go for Logitech speaker accessories to enhance the sound capacity.

Some users also do complain about aching fingers when typing long time on a laptop, they can go for wireless keyboard and mouse combo accessories. Imagine yourself in an airport lounge and running out of your laptop battery. Chances are there you might not be lucky enough to find a socket for charging your notebook. It shows the importance of going for a notebook which has long battery life.

These days many notebooks are there with multiple battery options like four cells, six cells or nine cells. Normally more the number of cells, the longer a battery will hold the charge.

All notebook manufactures provide warranty when you purchase notebook of their brand. You also have the option of choosing free at home service in case of any defect occurs with in that warranty period. However notebook is highly susceptible to accidental breakage and theft. So it is a good investment to insure your notebook.

If you think that your notebook does not need to be insured within its warranty period, think again. Because the warranty can at best take care of any defective hardware but theft, fire, power surges or accidental breakage are seldom covered under the warranty scheme. Many electronics retailers do offer extended warranties that act as a kind of insurance. In these extended warranties some retailers offer full replacement of your defect parts. Hence it is a good bargain.

These days you can also go for third party computer insurance agencies that will take care of your accidental claims. Safeware, a computer insurance company covers natural disasters like earthquake, flood and hurricanes under its accidental insurance coverage scheme.

Following are a few tips on how to take proper care of your notebook.

1. Use a clean, soft and lint-free cloth to wipe the dust from your laptop.

2. Always use an ammonia or alcohol free cleansing solution to clean the LCD screen of your notebook.

3. Keyboards are usually the most difficult part to dust off in laptop. Use cans of dust-of compressed air to clean your laptop keyboard.

4. You can use the scratch-removal kits available generally for iPods to remove the scratches on your laptop surface.

5 Tips For Choosing a New Apple Laptop

Ready to make the move to an Apple Laptop? Or are you just ready to upgrade a favorite older Mac that's seen years of long and faithful service? No matter where you're coming from, here are five quick tips to determine which Apple laptop is the right one for you!

What kind of work will you be doing on your new laptop?

Graphics design work will probably make a larger screen a plus so that you can get the details without squinting. If you're planning to play games (especially online games that may require lots of storage memory), you'll need a fast processor and the hard drive space to store all that data "loot" you'll be collecting on your imaginary adventures. Is the laptop going to be used by a student or traveling businessman? In that case, portability may be the big issue. Take a good look at what you'll be doing most of the time with your new Mac-you'll be glad you did.

Best bet for gaming or graphics: MacBook Pro. With an NVidia Graphics processor and a smoking hot 2.4 or 2.5GHz, you're ready to roll. Best student or business bet: MacBook Air. Superlight and well set up for a wide variety of general applications.

How portable does your new laptop need to be?

If you're planning to use your new laptop at your desk, then any of the Apple lines will be great. But if you're a business traveler who has to work on the go (especially in a crowded airplane seat) or a student who has to fit a laptop into a backpack or messenger bag, you'll want to make portability a priority. Also remember: the more powerful the processor, the more power it consumes-so if you're going to be unplugged while working, that may be a consideration.

Best portability bet: Mac Book Air. It's light, fast and with its 1.6GHz processor, a real current sipper.

Will this laptop be your only computer?

While all Apple laptops are flexible enough to cover almost every need, some are better optimized for specific roles. If your laptop is just one of your computers, you may not need to cram everything into it; concentrate on what you really need a laptop for (see above). But if this will be your only (or main) computer, it's best to choose one that can cover the widest number of tasks without being locked down to a specific specialization. For example, if you're planning to do a lot of writing, a little web design, and a bit of Internet surfing, you'll want a solid all-purpose laptop rather than a powerhouse graphics or speed machine.

Best "only computer" bet: MacBook. More processor power for those large applications and a larger 120GB hard drive to store lots of important information.

How sophisticated does your new laptop need to be?

We're not talking about the ability to look cool at a party here. In computer terms, sophistication means just how powerful or precise does your new laptop have to be to run high-end applications or perform tasks that the average user would probably never encounter in daily life. If you're going to be handling word processing or most business applications, you won't need the most powerful graphics or the speediest processors to get the job done. But if you're going to be playing lots of games or running lots of video applications, you'll need as much speed and power as you can get. That's because most video games are designed to push the graphic/power envelopes of even the best laptops. And if you're a graphic designer (whether for the Web or print) you'll want the graphic power to render the most accurate color reproduction possible for your clients.

Once again, the best bet for gaming or graphics: MacBook Pro. With the NVidia graphics processor and 2.4 or 2.5GHz onboard, you can handle games or graphics with ease.

What's your personal style?

One of the best things about Apple products is that they're great looking-in fact, sleek style and sophisticated design are the Apple hallmark. If you're the professional type, you may want to concentrate on the smooth clean lines of the MacBook in either black or white. Or you may want to show your own personal flair with the MacBook Air's edgy thin profile. No matter what Apple laptop you choose, you're going to look stylish!

Laptops For Students Are Becoming a Necessity

States around the country are coming up with initiatives to ensure all students have access to a computer and the internet. Some of these initiatives involve providing laptops for all students in a particular school system. Some say computers are becoming a teaching necessity. Many reasons exist for this new onslaught of laptop policy making. Some agree that laptops for students can close the gap between rich and poor students where access to information is concerned. Another reason is that academic achievement can be bolstered by educational software. No matter what the reason, the use of laptops in schools and households increases yearly.

Many uses exist for laptops for students. Students can utilize programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel for school work. Power Point is a great tool for presentations and speeches. CD/DVD drives can be used to view school-related films and make music and film projects. Students can use a wide variety of educational software programs with their laptops. Access to the internet is fundamental for research nowadays.

It should be noted that the more familiar a child becomes with a computer early on, the less they will have to learn later. College courses taken online are fast becoming a popular option for students. Use now will facilitate learning at the college level.

With the abundance of reasons to use laptops on a student-wide basis, there come the problems that need to be addressed to successfully utilize the technology. One question is whether home use will be required. If it is, then the initiative will likely need to help poorer families have access to the internet. A set of rules needs to be established for laptops for students to ensure proper maintenance of the machine, including when to charge it, how to store it, etc. Another issue that may arise is determining what software can be a distraction, and eliminating it from the school's laptop use.

There are many features that make a computer worthwhile. Of course, depending on whether you are a businessman or a student, these programs will be different. For laptops for students, one of the best options is Microsoft Office Student Edition. This will ensure the student has access to software that is used for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Other helpful software options include security software to prevent identity and information theft and Adobe Reader, which allows you to read pdf files. These should be the basic elements you look for in a student laptop.

Various types and prices exist for laptops for students. Whether you are purchasing it or the school is, you may want to look for a low priced option that doesn't skimp on features. One good option is the Dell Inspiron, which starts around $499. This model comes with a CD burner, 1.86 GHz processor, and a Windows Vista operating system. With all the basics, this makes an affordable laptop-for-student option.

Another great option is the HP Pavillion dv6700t. This model will run you about $650. It has all that the Dell has, but it can be upgraded to a 2.50 GHz processor and the monitor is a bit bigger. This option also has more memory. Though it is more expensive, if you plan on storing a lot of stuff, this is the one for you!

Much can be said for the laptop's contribution to education. Whether for research or for preparing projects, laptops for students enable students to do it all. Economic and academic barriers can be broken by having access to this fundamental tool. Welcome to the Information Age!

Buying the Laptop Case That Best Suits You

After pining over owning your own laptop for the last 3 months, you finally get one. There's one problem, though: you don't actually have a carrying case to protect it with. In addition, you've more or less convinced yourself that there's no way you'll spend more than what you've already spent for your laptop. After all, with a thousand dollars invested in a laptop, spending $70 on a laptop case just might not seem worth it. However, don't short-change yourself.

It's vital that you invest in a good laptop bag. What should you look for in a carrying case for your computer? After all, if you put great importance on your machine, you should get a good bag to put it in when you're carrying it around.

Portable computers are in need of protection because they are vulnerable on both the inside and outside. The daily wear and tear on laptops from jiggling the machine while commuting and the less-than-homelike environments we can find ourselves in exposes our computer to less-than-standard environments that design engineers probably didn't test for.

Laptop cases also make carrying your machine around a more comfortable load. Carrying your laptop shouldn't have to hurt your shoulders; quality laptop bags offer your shoulder better protection.

If you still feel that you need to be convinced, the next points may be essential. It draws a line between good and bad notebook cases.

Comfort: Good laptop bags offer good support for your shoulder compared to low-priced alternatives. Laptops weigh about 6 pounds at least, and breaking your shoulder over lugging it around is just not worth it. Quality cases also offer a better variety of designs that will suit your taste. In the end, good bags are easier on your shoulder and stylish to carry around.

Protection: Cheap laptop bags that come free with laptop purchases don't protect your investment. Drop that bag with your computer inside, and it's likely that your machine is gone forever. Good cases are insulated both inside and outside, so much so that these layers reinforce the protection for your notebook. You get peace of mind from knowing your computer is safe as you travel around. Some of these cases come with combination locks to give you even greater security.

Storage: Reputable brands of laptop bags offer a variety of styles and designs. These will incorporate compartments with the amount of extra storage you may need. Cheaper ones will usually just have enough space for your machine, and maybe a small pocket.

Are you now convinced that investing in a quality laptop case is just about right? Great! However, remember that whatever you intend to bring with your laptop will determine the sort and size of case you must get. Obviously, the laptop bag has to be bigger if you intend to bring a lot more things along.

Do take into consideration the size of your laptop as not all cases will be able to fit your computer. Cases are sized based upon the diameter of the screen and once you have found the right size then you need to consider styling. There are basic designs you can choose from, but there are also those that resemble luggage, and those with backpack straps. The last style makes it appear as though you're not carrying a laptop, which will help you evade tempted thieves.

Go over the relevant characteristics of excellent laptop cases so you can pick a high-quality one when you go to the store. Remember, putting money into a case that won't hurt your shoulders and will protect your laptop is worth it!

Laptops - Broadband

I keep coming back to the idea of how portable our world has become. Thanks to handheld computers, people can work while sitting in the back of a taxi! With laptop broadband access, they can work that much harder.

Thanks to miniaturization or what we call nanotechnology (thank you, Star Trek!) the computer industry and the cellular industry have been able to team up to produce laptop broadband wireless access for anyone who has the funds to purchase a computer.

Gaining access to wifi networks across the country has made it possible for those who have a laptop broadband Internet connection to travel and work at the same time. No longer does the average employee dash from home office to field office just to use the computer for data transmission.

No, with laptop broadband Internet access, you can work from anywhere at any time and reduce the down time you spend idly waiting at airports for flights. You can now work clear up till takeoff, when Federal Aviation Administration rules require all electronic devices to be shut down until the airplane reaches cruising altitude.

So really the only time a worker would be out of touch in terms of laptop broadband or cellular access would be during a flight. This does not preclude getting work done on the laptop while in flight, however - you just have to wait until you land to transmit your data.

The most difficult choice anyone has to make in terms of access to a wireless network is which company to go with. Laptop broadband cards (also known as PCMCIA cards) are available from almost every cellular provider in the United States and international markets as well.

To make your choice, test laptop broadband cards from at least three different providers. Test the cards in metropolitan as well as rural areas. Sometimes what works in New York City might not have adequate coverage in upstate New York.

In addition, try the Flash test on the laptop broadband card from each provider. This is a way of testing the speed of transmission from each provider and will greatly aid you in making the right choice.

Finally, when choosing your laptop broadband card (and its wireless network provider), the ultimate test is this: customer service. Does your provider explain all aspects of their plans? Can you get a good deal? Is their network available across the country? Do your homework and make an informed choice.

Company Laptops

A few years ago I used to work for one of the big computer firms here in Spain. I formed part of the sales team and we always had the very best laptops money could buy at our service.

Now I am working for a smaller company the time has come to buy laptops for the two salespeople we have working here.

Looking for a laptop.

We must never forget that the life of a laptop will usually be moving around all over the place, coming in and out of bags, cases, suitcases, etc. Staying in the boot of the car forgotten some summer days and being opened and closed continuously while the coffee sits just two fingers away on a wobbly desk.

But it seems now everything is much more focused on design. When checking all the suppliers of laptops I have seen very nice looking computers, but when you feel and touch them they do not seem to strong at all. I think I know why they are no longer as sturdy as they used to be. The answer is that when I was working for the firm a few years back only business people had laptops. Nobody else would ever think about buying a laptop. Laptops were used for business.

But now times have changed. Just about everyone has a laptop. That's great actually! Students, factory employees, secretaries, shopkeepers... Just about everyone has a laptop.

There is a 'but' though. To make laptops accessible to the normal working man the price has decreased substantially, and so has the quality. At least that is the way I see it.

A few years back when I went into a PC supplier looking for a company laptop for me, apart from the specs I would open and close the screen pulling from just one corner, ask about the dampening on the disk drives, check if the computer with the cover closed could withstand a reasonable amount of weight and check if the laptop could be trusted as a machine that will receive bumps, scratches and not be treated with care by the employees.

This time around when I have gone looking for a laptop apart from the specifications I see that most screens are way too flexible, most laptops look really weak and it's best not to bother about asking about dampening and anti-shock features because the shop clerk will never know anything that hasn't got to do about what O.S. it has installed or the GB of RAM you can pump it up with.

And yes, I have visited what are considered the best Computer shops here in Spain and have looked at all the best makes of laptops out there. They now have 'business edition' laptops but honestly, I can't really tell the difference between a business quality laptop nowadays and a cheap consumer laptop. I don't even find magnesium cases are that sturdy, they all usually fail at the hinges or have weird Keyboards that are really tough to get along with if you touch type. Having a strange Keyboard is as bad as having weak hinges for me.

In the end we ended up buying two 'business edition' laptops. Four months later they look like they have been in the middle of a battlefield and we have had to have one replaced because the screen decided to go green after two months using it.

It is true I have spoken to many people that manage to keep their modern laptops in good condition even if they travel around with it. But they are not treated like we used to treat them. I can remember the way we used to treat laptops and yes, they were scratched, but apart from that they were holding on perfectly. Nowadays, from what I'm seeing, they have become much more delicate and can't handle being treated harshly as well they used to handle it.

I've had a chance of speaking with my ex-company CEO about this over a coffee and he agrees that the quality has dropped substantially. What they do now is renew them every six months with a leasing plan that covers it. He says holding on to them for more time nowadays would be crazy.

Need Laptop Suppliers? Know What to Look For, Business Owners!

Many electronic stores have a long list of suppliers, some are more reliable then others, in a lot of cases they are part of a chain of stores, meaning corporate has determined their suppliers from the outset. But for private business owners and for those in the corporate world who are in a position to authorize a supplier for the company there is the headache of finding someone who will make the best of your time and money.

In order to find laptop suppliers, one of the best things to look for as far as characteristics is communication. The lines of communication must stay open so that they are making themselves available to you at a moments notice. How frustrating would it be to finally receive your order, just to find out that the quantity is incorrect, there's shipping damage, things of that nature, and low and behold as soon as you get on the line to these people during business hours, and you can't get through.

This is the main trait that CANNOT be overlooked in a company once you have decided on who to go with, Communication. Whether you need laptop suppliers, desktop suppliers, monitors, video equipment, printers, potted plants, coffee makers, WHATEVER! The bottom line is you need to be able to get a hold of these people and quickly kick up a dialog whenever you need to. Don't get sucked into the glaze of a good price that can set in and cause you to have to endure more headache than its worth. One thing that has been proven time and again in business is that customer service is just about as important as price, since people will gladly pay a little extra to enjoy a seamless, stress free experience, no doubt you are among those people. When you're on the hunt to find laptops suppliers there are several things to look for but this article was only meant to touch on the importance of communication. Never forget it, or you may regret it!

Create Custom Laptop Skins

If you're trying to come up with a way to dress up your laptop, cool laptop skins are the way to go. You can instantly improve the look of your laptop by personalizing it.

Laptop skins are adhesive vinyl stickers that stick to your computer laptop and add some color to an otherwise dull gray cover. There's no reason you have to settle for boring. A laptop skin can be customized with any photo or graphic you choose.

For some, a laptop skin might have a band, celebrity, or sports team. Many people also have college laptop skins or flowers or even nature scenes.

You can also use laptop skins for marketing purposes, either to promote your company on your own laptop, or by giving away laptop skins with your URL or brand.

A lot of people have concerns about laptop skins being permanent. A laptop skin is easily removed and leaves no residue. Installation is easy, only taking a minute, and your laptop will have a cool new look to it.

How long your laptop skin lasts kind of depends on how much you transport your laptop. It's probably safe to say that it should be still looking good in about 6 months, and probably longer if you use a case instead of a sleeve. Or if your laptop spends most of it's time at home it will probably last a while longer as well.

You might be wondering what kind of computers laptop skins can work with. You can apply them to any really, from dell and hp to mac. It's not an issue of the brand, the only really concern is the actual laptop size. And since laptop skins can be made for up to a 17" screen, it's easy to scale down or trim where needed.

Providing protection from scrapes and dings, laptop skins are your vinyl armor to keeping your notebook looking like new. And since they are easily removable, you can revert to the factory look in a matter of seconds if you ever choose to. Laptop skins are easy to install and remove.

So what are you waiting for? Customize your notebook with laptop skins today!

Pink Sony Vaio For Sale - Where Can You Find One?

When a girl, probably a young girl or teenager, is looking for a pink Sony Vaio for sale, there really isn't anything that will be a good replacement. Certainly not the standard gunmetal grey version, for crying out loud. The fire engine red or electric blue Dells would be a poor substitute. No. When you want pink, you need pink.

But, while Sony Vaios are some of the most high end and stable laptops on the market today, with the widest range of features and certainly some of the highest "cool factor," there is a price to be paid. That's not metaphorical, either, the price tag on Sony Vaios is literally one of the highest in the laptop market. Basically, they're worth it, but it's gonna cost you.

The natural next step is to look for a used pink Sony vaio for sale. Well, that's easier said than done. The specificity of color, particularly an unusual color such as pink, makes the item quite a bit more rare, which in turn makes the search quite a bit more difficult than it would be otherwise.

There are a few places that would be good to look, though. The thing that makes the internet so great is that it can bring people with very specific interests together, though they would probably not have organically come in contact otherwise.

You can look on online auction sites and online classified sites, to begin with. Online auctions are great because you can see photos of the item in question, and, more importantly, view the feedback that other buyers have left for the seller to determine if the buyer is reputable or not. Online classifieds, on the other hand, are useful because they focus on a local area as opposed to worldwide distribution. Therefore, you often have the opportunity to meet the seller face to face and view the item before making a purchasing decision.
